From an idea to a registered NGO
MIHLGSO grew out of a simple resolution by Mafia higher-learning graduates and students: build something that helps our island. Here's the timeline so far.
Milestones
8 March 2009
MIHLGSO is founded
Higher-learning graduates and students from Mafia Island, together with native Mafia people, formally resolve to build a non-profit organization on the principles of freedom, justice, fraternity, and concord.
3 December 2012
Officially registered
The Registrar of Societies under Tanzania's Ministry of Home Affairs registers MIHLGSO as a non-governmental, non-profit organization — P.O. Box 9223, Dar es Salaam.

First constitution adopted
Members formally adopt the MIHLGSO Katiba, setting out the organization's objectives, leadership structure, and governance across its ten parts. [Add the date this was ratified.]
