Our story
Built by Mafia Island's own graduates and students
MIHLGSO was formed in 2009 by higher-learning graduates and students of Mafia Island who resolved to give back to the community that raised them. In December 2012 the organization was officially registered as a non-profit NGO by the Registrar of Societies under Tanzania's Ministry of Home Affairs. Everything we do is guided by four founding principles.

Orphans & Vulnerable
We help orphans, widows, and vulnerable children reach their education goals and meet their daily needs.

From a shared resolve to a registered NGO
MIHLGSO founded on Mafia Island
Higher-learning graduates and students of Mafia Island formally resolved to build a non-profit organization on the principles of freedom, justice, fraternity, and concord.
Officially registered as an NGO
The Registrar of Societies under the Ministry of Home Affairs of Tanzania registered MIHLGSO as a non-governmental, non-profit organization on 3 December 2012.
